Ballast Privacy Policy

Overview

This privacy policy describes how Ballast ("the App") handles information when you use our budget tracker.

Ballast is local-first. Your financial records stay on your device in this version. We do not operate a Ballast cloud account for syncing budgets or bank connections.

Information stored on your device

The App stores the following data locally on your device using on-device storage (including SwiftData and App Group storage for widgets):

• Account names, types, and balances
• Categories, budgets, transactions, notes, and import identifiers
• Recurring bill templates and installment plans
• App preferences such as theme, currency, budget period start day, and app lock setting
• A small widget snapshot (net worth and related summary fields) shared with the Ballast widget via an App Group

Information we do not collect

The App developer does not collect, sell, or use the following:

• Bank login credentials or bank account numbers
• Advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking
• Analytics or usage telemetry sent to the App developer
• Crash reports sent to third-party services
• Your transaction history on developer-controlled servers

Imports and exports

If you import CSV or OFX/QFX files, those files are read on your device to create transactions. If you export CSV, PDF, or a JSON backup, the files are created on your device and shared only when you choose a share destination.

Purchases

The App may offer an optional one-time unlock purchase for features such as installments and export.

Purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Payment details are handled by Apple, not by the App developer.

Biometric unlock

If you enable App Lock, the App uses Face ID or device passcode through Apple's LocalAuthentication framework to unlock the App on this device.

Biometric data is processed by iOS. It is not transmitted to the App developer.

Widgets

If you add a Ballast Home Screen widget, the App writes a summary snapshot to on-device App Group storage so the widget can update without opening the App.

Widget data stays on your device. It is not sent to the App developer.

Retention and deletion

Financial records remain on your device until you delete them or delete the App.

Delete All Data in Settings removes accounts, budgets, transactions, recurring bills, installment plans, and the widget snapshot on this device, then returns you to onboarding.

Uninstalling the App removes the App's on-device container according to iOS.

Children's privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this policy will change when we do.
